accuracy in weather forecasting

When we first moved to Minnesota, I was often surprised at how far off weather forecasts were from reality. Rain predicted, sunny skies. Snow predicted, not a flake. You get the idea. Having grown up in Los Angeles, where weather forecasts always seemed to be extremely accurate (how hard can it be to forecast sunshine almost every day?), it's been frustrating, if not a little disappointing. Having not had much rain or snow growing up, I still get excited about both and run to the window when there's a big storm. So, when the forecast calls for a storm and there isn't one, I get really bummed out.

Sometimes, the lack of accuracy is just laughable. Take right now, for example:

In case you missed that, I've circled the current temperature:

And here's the forecast circled:

Only 17 degrees off. I wish I could get away with accuracy like this in my job.

Oh, and it's been really freakin' cold the last few days. I'm ready for something warmer. Only 63 days left until Mexico.
