Discovery HD Theater used to have a show I liked called "Sunrise Earth". The premise of the show was simple: HD videocameras would be set up in various locations and capture sunrise and early morning scenes. I liked this show because it had no talking, no dialogue, and no explanation of anything going on in it. Oh, and it was in HD. I'm a sucker for that.
Anyway, I took the time while I was on vacation to do something similar. The unusual hours that I keep meant that I was able to catch the sunrise almost every day that I was in Florida, and that made for some nice photo/video opportunities. One of these days, I'll have to get a good external mic so that I don't have to worry about the wind, but other than that, I'm really pleased with the results I get from my camera. There are HD versions available for each of them if you don't mind waiting a little bit longer for them to load. Enjoy.

nights in key west
The little lady has less vacation time than I do, so I ended up spending my last few days in Key West alone. For my last night, I decided to go out and take photos of Key West's nightlife, which is actually a lot more lively than daytime Key West. On my way to Duval St., the hub of Key West's nightlife and tourism, I found a marina where I could stop and actually not pay for parking (you have to pay for parking almost everywhere in Key West). I managed to pull into the lot right as the sun was setting.

After that, I hit Duval St. It's full of bars, restaurants, art galleries and tourist-trap souvenir shops--mostly the kinds of places that I prefer to avoid at all costs. The little lady and I had been there a couple times to eat and walk around, and while it wasn't my favorite place, it did make for some interesting photos.
I only used my 100mm macro lens since it was the fastest lens I had available, but it performed like a champ. Enjoy.

the flora and fauna of my hotel
In addition to a ridiculous number of palm trees and shrubs, the Sheraton here in Key West has a lot of interesting flowers on the grounds. These included probably the most perfect example of a hibiscus I've ever seen--very beautiful.
All photos were taken with a 100mm macro lens. Enjoy.

on the beach again
Becca and I are currently in Key West, FL. It has been great to get away from our usual surroundings and into the generally clear skies and blue waters of southern Florida.
We spent one night in Miami Beach. One shot of sunrise the following morning:

A stop on the drive to Key West:

Seaweed on the beach:

The beach across from our hotel:

Many of the palm trees here have coconuts on them:

Palms at sunset:

Sunrise this morning:
