judgment night

What a day it's been.

I had trouble sleeping last night, and woke up at 4:15 this morning. I decided I was too busy to sit at home, so I left home shortly thereafter and got to the office around 5:15. I worked on homework for a while, and then sifted through the dungpile that is known as my email inbox until 8:00. From 8:00 on, I had meetings for all but one hour. I left at 3:45, with my head hurting and my brain having long before turned to goo.

Becca left work an hour early, and we went to our polling place as soon as she got home. I had been hearing about ridiculous lines all day long, so I feared the worst. I discovered once I got inside the building that most of the people waiting in line were registering to vote right there (MN allows for voter registration on election day), so we were able to walk right by them and get our ballots. We spent less than 20 minutes total on voting. And no, I did not vote for Obama. Bad ideas, no substance, limited understanding of economics. Thanks, but no thanks.

We went to dinner at Qdoba after we voted. Nothing screams "I love America" like a burrito and a plate of nachos. I spent a couple more hours after that doing work and homework, and now we're watching last night's Saturday Night Live election special. Awesome.

I don't consider myself a patriot in the traditional sense, but man, do I love voting. I love doing my civic duty. I love getting that "I voted" sticker, and I wish I'd gotten it earlier in the day. I love seeing other people getting out and getting involved. It's probably the only day of any year that I really feel like flying the flag. Election Day is a great day to be an American.
