My dad just bought a Canon 5D, so I've been showing him the ropes and such. Earlier this afternoon, I suggested that he try out my fisheye lens, since the 5D's full frame sensor wouldn't cut off any of the curvature effect. He ended up liking it quite a bit, so he walked around the house and yard taking pictures of different things. The weather is crappy (figures it would rain while I'm in LA) and I had nothing else to do, so I put my 100-400mm telephoto lens on my camera and headed outside as well. I just took photos of random things, but had fun.

I took all of these without a tripod. The more I use this lens, the more impressed with it I am. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
I'll have to see if I can get some of my dad's fisheye photos. They're pretty entertaining.
Was this a 5D or 5D mkII? I like that 100-400. Rumors have been talking about a new version of that lens being introduced at some point.
ReplyDeleteIf I go that long, I may just get a good prime... 300 mm or so. Maybe 400 mm?
He got a 5D MkII. I've used it a bit, and the image quality seems pretty impressive from what I can tell. That said, the only place I might otherwise give it the edge over my 7D is the full frame sensor. The controls and menus are a lot clunkier, and it just doesn't feel as good in my hands.
ReplyDeleteA long prime would be cool, but super pricey. Probably a bit too specialized for my tastes, though.
