looking out the window

We received our air shipment last Monday, and one of the things inside that I had been eagerly looking forward to having around was my tripod. I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday morning, so I decided to set it up and take a few photos. The lights don't stay on all night here, so I'll have to take some more photos before 10pm or so sometime so you get a better feel for what the area looks like before everyone goes to sleep.

Directly out the window:

The street we live on, Zhongyang Lu. There was a surprising number of cars still on the road for the time of day, hence the light streaks:

A section of nearby Xuanwu Lake:

A closeup of the closest viewable section of Zhongyang Lu from our window:

Since it was surprisingly sunny and clear when I woke up later that morning, I took some more photos from the window.

Another Xuanwu Lake shot, roughly the same area as the night photo:

Given the small size of this photo, you probably can't see a ton of detail. You should notice, however, clothes hanging out of windows and a number of slanted-looking things on roofs; those are groups of tubes with a tank on top--a type of solar water heater. I wonder how well this works in the winter, though.
